Parrotlet Blue (Forpus coelestis)
The Pacific parakeet (Forpus coelestis), also known as Lesson's parakeet, is a species of small parrot in the Psittacidae family. It is a small parrot native to South America. It is 11–14 centimetres (4.3–5.5 in) long and usually weighs 30 grams or more. Parakeets are often referred to as pocket parakeets due to their size. But they are known for their strong personalities and lively behaviors. They are solitary birds in captivity due to their aggressive behavior towards other birds when confined, so housing one with conspecifics is not recommended unless there is ample space. You could also keep them as a pair in a very large cage under extreme supervision, as they are very social birds that can benefit from the company of the same species, but have violent tendencies under stressful conditions. The cage should be large enough so that the weaker bird of the pair can fly away from the confrontation if a conflict arises. Budgies eat a lot of fruits, seeds, vegetables and herbs. They thrive on a varied diet, some staples may include, but are not limited to, quinoa, millet, broccoli, beetroot, oats, peppers, brown rice, apples and pomegranate seeds. These can also be combined in "chopped" form and mixed. Pacific parakeets, like many larger parrot species, can learn to "talk" or mimic, although their "voices" are not as clear as those of larger birds. Their vocabulary is relatively limited compared to larger parrots, although they have been known to learn a few words and phrases.
