Cardinalis Cardinalis (Red Cardinal)
The Northern Cardinal (*Cardinalis cardinalis*) is a striking North American songbird. The male is vibrant red, featuring a black area around the beak and a distinctive crest.
It requires: sufficient space for flight, natural branches of varying diameters, shaded and sheltered areas, fresh water daily, a safe environment free from drafts and intense, scorching sunlight, and regular cleaning. It is also territorial, particularly the male; housing two males in a confined space is not advisable. In the wild, its diet consists primarily of seeds, grains, fruits, and insects. Sunflower seeds are a particularly characteristic part of its diet.
