Richardson's Ground Squirrel
This species is called Richardson’s ground squirrel and is a type of ground squirrel that comes to us from North America.
Its natural environment is the plains with low vegetation and its activity is mainly located underground, hence the name ground squirrel. It is a rodent of the squirrel family and its main difference compared to our more familiar tree squirrels is the absence of the characteristic large and bushy tail. In nature, it lives on average around 4 years, but in captivity it can live up to 7 years.
It is a relatively easy pet that does not have special requirements for its care, with the only important requirement being that there is enough available space for a large and spacious cage and space to move around.
As a rodent, it has a very fast metabolism, so there should always be a bowl of food in its place from which it constantly eats. Its food consists mainly of nuts and seeds, but it also eats some vegetables such as lettuce, carrots, and various fruits, and is generally omnivorous.
