Διαμαντένιες Ντόβες / Διαμαντοπερίστερα (Geopelia cuneata)
Diamond doves are small birds ranging in size from 19-21 cm, including their long tail, which reaches 8-9 cm.
They have a strong, steady flight that can also be undulating, and they make a characteristic sound when taking off. They breed mainly during the rainy season, especially in spring, building small, rough, and fragile nests out of twigs and grass.
Male diamond doves have gray-blue plumage on their head, neck, and chest, a whitish belly, and dark gray wings with white speckles. The tail and back feathers are dark brown in color. Their legs are pink, while their long, pointed beak is dark gray.
Through selective crossbreeding, various plumage colors have been achieved, such as gray-yellow, agate, gray-red, silver shades, etc.
The exemplary behavior exhibited by Diamond Doves in their interaction with other birds, even of other species, as well as their peaceful nature, make them lovable even to new breeders, as they are easy birds to manage, and dealing with this species does not present any particular problems.
