Character and Behavior
They are calm, friendly and intelligent birds.
Very social, both with humans and other birds.
Suitable for contact with humans, as long as they are familiarized from a young age.
Due to their "exhibition" nature, they are less active than wild budgies.
Care
Cage: Spacious, ideally larger than usual budgie cages.
Nutrition: Budgie seeds, fresh vegetables (e.g. broccoli, carrot), a few fruits (apple, pear), egg food and vitamins.
Cleanliness: Frequent water changes, cleaning of the floor and perches.
Entertainment: Toys, twigs, mirrors (if alone).
Breeding
Care should be taken when crossing crested budgies with each other, as the double crest mutation can lead to problems in the young (genetic abnormalities).
It is recommended to mate a crested budgie with a regular budgie.
